HISTORY

My first race car was the ex Grant Dacombe Commodore of Jason Fleck. With a difference of about 500mm in height, this car required significant alteration, but I turned out in it at the beginning of the 2001 - 2 season. This was certainly a steep learning curve & I would be the first to admit that I never really felt comfortable with a rear-wheel drive.

After a few years of campaigning that, we decided we would invest in a new car. After lots of internet searching, we decided on a Toyota Celica ST162, as on paper it showed a lot of potential. We found a donor car (still with Reg & WOF) & set about stripping & building. Many hours & 1 broken finger later, the new car emerged for the beginning of the 2006 - 7 season. To our great delight, I managed a win on the opening night, followed up with several podium finishes over the course of that season & the following two seasons.

As there is a rule that Production Saloons may not be older than 20 years, towards the end of 2009 season we were playing with the idea of upgrading again. This decision was made for us at the Ashburton-run Production Title in May, 2010. 3 laps into the first heat, a front-runner clipped the wall on turn 1, broke the right CV joint & hit the wall head on. Coming behind him, with a car to my left, I had nowhere to go. Despite turning my car sideways to inflict as little damage as possible (successfully), the competitor behind hit me resulting in considerable damage to all three cars.
